All consultations are by appointment and can be booked in person at reception or by calling 01229 484 141. Our receptionists will ask you some questions to help direct you to the most suitable clinician.
We offer a wide variety of appointments.
Routine appointments can be booked up to several weeks ahead for those matters which are non-urgent or which are already being treated by a doctor but need to be reviewed. If you wish to book a routine appointment please try to ring after 10:00 to ease pressure on the telephone lines.
Book-on-the-day appointments are for those problems that cannot wait to be seen. Please bear in mind that these are limited in number.
Urgent cases - you may be seen as an urgent case at the end of each surgery, but this may not be with the doctor of your choice. Urgent appointments can only be booked on that particular day and may also prompt a call from a doctor before being seen, in which case you will be asked to give us a telephone number on which you can be contacted.
The doctors also offer telephone appointments and advice. This can be helpful if you wish to discuss a problem that may not require you to attend the surgery or if you are unsure whether something is important.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
Getting through on the telephone
We would like to acknowledge the difficulty which patients are finding in contacting us first thing in the morning. We recognise the frustration which this does cause and also appreciate how this could be very worrying if you are ill and are unable to get through. We receive between 150 and 300 calls into the practice in the period between 8.30am and 8.45am each morning with the highest number on a Monday morning. Although we have changed how we operate and now have more receptionists answering the phone in the early part of the day we cannot get to every call. This is one reason why on-line booking is so important as it will enable patients who need to be seen for routine matters to book appointments at a time convenient to them and to take some of the pressure off the telephone. So we would ask, if you need to ring us about a non urgent matter or for a result, would you please try to do so after 10am. We are open until 6.30 and the number of calls coming in to us drops dramatically after the first quarter hour and each similar period after that.
